La chambre blanche

May 6 & 7, 2011
Vancouver Playhouse

First created in 1992 and completely reimagined for the twenty-first century, La Chambre Blanche is one of O Vertigo founder Ginette Laurin’s strongest creations. A new musical score and lighting design strengthen this exploration of theatricality, emotion, and the notion of confinement. Based in Montreal and founded in 1984, O Vertigo is renowned on the international and Canadian dance scenes. La Chambre Blanche has won the Montreal Arts Council Grand Prix and a Dora Mavor Moore award.

Under the Skin

March 11 & 12, 2011
Vancouver Playhouse

Under the Skin is a new full-length collaborative work for twelve dancers from Wen Wei Dance and the Beijing Modern Dance Company. A dual investigation into the common ground shared by performers from Canada and China, Under the Skin is a challenging work that examines ideas of cultural and personal identity, from the inside out.

Under the Skin features choreographic works by Wen Wei Wang (In Transition) and Gao Yanjinzi (Journey to the East).

In Transition is about the collision of the past and the present within the continuum of personal and social evolution. Journey to the East explores the collectivity of different groups and the forces that divide and unite people.
